A whole new world

Stepping off the plane in Colorado Springs...definitely a world away from NYC. The big sky, the mountains, the rocky terrain and the trees--all so different. It was nice to be in the midst of it--wouldn't have minded staying a little longer. Our trip was to visit E's friends from Fuller and their family. We did a little hiking, some mountain biking (well, not me), and went up to Pike's Peak. It was a good time away, a good time to catch up (E), and get to know each other better (me). Everyone enjoyed S, too. :)

The first day we chilled out. Instead of taking a walk we took the driving tour of the Garden of the Gods. There were some neat red rock formations. This is known as the kissing camels (don't ask E to point them out to you):

Sunday we went mountain biking/hiking. S had a blast in the hiking backpack. It seemed like she giggled the whole trip!

E had a fun but challenging time on the mountain bike:

I really liked the aspen trees--the ones with the white bark and fluttery leaves. I enjoyed hanging out in the hammocks in the backyard watching them as well.

Our gifts were a hit with the boys (they also have an older sister):

We dropped one of the boys off at camp. I ran into a fellow Wheatie--small world. This is hanging out at the campground:

Monday we drove up to Pike's Peak--all 14,000 feet plus. At the top! Poor E suffered from some altitude sickness.

Snow! Not sure if there is any here but there was even snow "graffiti":

What a difference a few thousand feet make. Crystal reservoir was my favorite scenic spot of the trip.

It was a lot harder flying with S this time--so squirmy! And getting big! And of course we had delays going both ways. We were thankful not to be delayed too much by the rain on the East Coast. Yesterday S kept doing this weird thing with her tongue--maybe getting another tooth?
