last days of summer

Ezer and I had fun last night at our first visit to the U.S. Open (yay, it didn't rain!). We saw Lindsay Davenport versus a "sistah" (as Ezer puts it), Nah Li from China, saw some smaller matches with great seats including cheering for the Thai guy, and we couldn't believe our eyes as saw Roddick lose 7-6, 7-6, 7-6. The crowd was trying its best to cheer him on to make a turnaround, but alas it was unsuccessful. It was interesting to see serves ranging from 74 for one of the women's matches to 135 in the Roddick match. The players do seem to be getting bigger and stronger, even the women (Davenport is 6'2"!).

Events like Hurricane Katrina and the news of many catastrophes make me think about the eventual end of the earth as we know it and the return of Jesus. I know people have been thinking it is imminent since he left, but I think for all of us it is probably a helpful exercise if nothing else to think about our role here on earth, what we have done, what we haven't done. This morning my thoughts turned to Micah 6:8:
He has told you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justice, to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God?

On a more frivolous note, being at Columbia there are a lot of undergrads doing exciting things. Two students from classes I T.A.ed for will be on TV this fall:
Rachel on Alias
Brian on Survivor

Jan,

Thank for sharing. I like the verse Micah 6:8 very much, especially the justice part.
