Today was Simone's first day of her formal education aka kindergarten.
Understandably, she was both excited and a little scared.
She asked me to put bobby pins in her hair like I had the day before for ballet class.
She gladly took photos with the family in the backyard. But at school was too nervous to look at the camera for several shots and refused to take a picture with her teacher by herself.
They had parents stay for the first 45 minutes which I think was a good idea. Noemi was a bit of a distraction - poor-planning mom forgot to bring snacks. And what kind of PTO parent welcome meeting only has coffee?!
I was glad to see that her class had a good mix of gender and race. S is the shortest/youngest kid only East/Southeast Asian.
Upon pick-up it turned out she'd gotten a puffy bug bite (message from the nurse on home phone; need to update cell phone with school). But she said liked her teacher. She made two friends - Imani and Seela. She liked doing puzzles. She didn't have homework. She got a "goodie bag" full of things from her teacher i.e. a penny to show that everyone is valuable, a sticker to show that they all needed to stick together and help each other, etc.
