Simone and I are headed to Boston this afternoon to visit the Chos (know from Wheaton). It's been a while since we've seen them...I'm sure there will be lots of exclaiming about how big our kids have grown!
"The week without Ezer" has included (he comes back the 27th):
- Simone really enjoying a trip to the big Toys R Us at Times Square. She was fascinated by the ferris wheel, scared by a live Spider-man, wanting to try every toy she saw. I was happy to get cheap Method laundry detergent.
- Auntie M made us a yummy lasagna dinner.
- Ice cream and cookies at Jacques Torres with Angela.
- Elizabeth Mitchell concert at Madison Park - mad crush of mostly moms and kids. I think I enjoyed it more than Simone.
- Cooking exactly one time (salmon! My hubby doesn't like fish so it's a good time to eat it).
- I take that back, cooking dinner once. I also hosted a breakfast for two missionary friends in town - made two breakfast casseroles, one savory and one sweet baked French toast one.
- Good-bye party for a prof in Central Park; nice day, nice to just hang out.
- Weekly music class, one of the highlights of the week for Simone; she gets excited every time we even get close to the church where it's held.
- Visit to TEANY; I liked it, my veggie "turkey" club was pretty good and the server was really nice (you appreciate these things even more when you have a kid); one of the workers at Jacques Torres even gave her a chocolate bear on a stick.
- A birth announcement: Welcome, Tehila (hymn of praise)!
- A wrap-up visit with my Roots in the Heights supervisor, my mentee, and her family
- Grocery shopping and laundry
- Messy/clean apartment in waves; I tend to let things pile up and then attend to them all at once (not like E at all)
Media:
- Watching the last few episodes of The Wire: Season Four; It took me a while to figure out where I'd left off (borrowed from the library and didn't finish all the episodes on the allotted week; had to wait forever on the waiting list to get it back) and appreciated with fresh eyes how good the series is.
- Reading Little Bee; about a refugee girl from Nigeria and a British woman whose lives were fatefully connected two years ago and have come together again. The chapters and narrated alternately by each woman. I wonder how Nigerian refugees view the Nigerian girl/woman (16) Little Bee; is her voice somewhat realistic or patronizing?
Thinking:
- More about the possibility of Simone being an only child
- How, even though Ezer and my differences cause conflict, they are also a good thing
- Enjoying the little girl Simone is becoming; trying to understand more of her personality
Simone:
- Talking more, is all about "What's that?" which I guess is a precursor to the "Why?" stage
- Told her first "story" - coming back from the grocery store we had met a friendly dog and owner. She got to pet the dog and the dog licked her toes. The next day out of the blue she said, "Woof, woof" her sound for dog and then pointed to her toes. It took me a second to get it, "Oh yeah, yesterday that brown curly haired dog licked your toes!" She giggled.
- Also coming up with her own "signs" like index fingers going up and down when she wants chopsticks (to use like the sticks from music class "marching" up the hill)
- Having fun with her new pretend fruit that she can "cut" in half
Playground fun after the last day of Mom's Group:

Really into keys (a little too much so as our walls now show); this with her friend Zoe:

Waiting for the concert to start:

Presents from Auntie Joy delivered by Angela:

Angela distracting Simone so she doesn't run into the street while we wait for the bus:

Since Ezer introduced her to the big kid swings she thinks she's one of them:
