School:
- Finished with the neuro chapter, phew. Apparently it was tough on the kids, too, as their quiz grades so far aren't very good.
- Decided to let kids re-write their response papers for a better grade (lowered by a third).
- I have an upcoming lesson on how to use a smart board.
- At church we have a teacher's grant seeing as how many teachers end up paying out of their own pocket for classroom necessities. At my school we pretty much have a blank check and don't even need to justify why we're getting what...that's when it hits me how crazy the disparities are.
Watching/reading:
- TV: Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Amazing Race, Mad Men (really like), The Wire
- Movies: Vicky Cristina Barcelona (enjoyed); There Will Be Blood (can't get myself to finish it)
- Books: On the last book of the Twilight series (teenage niece introduced me to them); What was Lost by Catherine O'Flynn (liked the first half); Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri (overall enjoyed);
Eating:
- Tried making Indian Cashew Chicken...eh...my friend's version was much better
- Went to Westchester with E for a date night just to get out of the city, enjoyed my lamb but the service was definitely not up to par w/ what I'm used to in the city
- Made banana chocolate marbled bread...hard for me not to gulp it down; E didn't think it was appropriate breakfast food for S; I disagree!
- Blaming the huge grocery bill on inflation, trying to buy lots of fruit for S, and no more free lunch at school since I'm there PT.
Church:
- Like my small group; we don't seem super close but I enjoyed the fellowship last Friday
- Mom's group started; somehow even though I'm just supposed to be master e-mailer I ended up leading the kick-off meeting and filling it for a last-minute cancellation for Bible Study leader this past week. It did make me wonder if maybe God is trying to tell me something.
- Enjoyed this week's sermon and the pastor's point of the Spirit being sent to cleanse us and not scourge us (as predicted by John the Baptist).
- Felt guilty about skipping out on nursery duty a couple weeks ago but I really did have a cold; it was nice to be in worship. Nursery duty just always feels so long.
Simone:
- Followed me down the hall and when I turned back I saw that instead of crawling she was walking while holding onto the wall!
- Really enjoyed picking leaves off the ground today.
- Is using an "open and shut" grabbing motion to mean "more."
- Is the only kid in her music class who protests loudly with big tears and a pouty lip when she has to give back the scarves/egg shakers/musical instruments.
Friends:
- Talked with a friend about setting up one of E's friends with one of her friends; funnily, she was set up with him once though they only e-mailed and never met.
- Becoming better friends with a gal from church who lives nearby; proximity is a blessing.
- Trying to initiate more with folks I don't know as well.
Around town:
- Heard a Trinity dad explain the housing crisis to his grade school son; reminded me that parents' professions really have an impact on how their kid understands the world
- Saw a little girl on the bus licking a soda can up and down...sure you can catch the spillage but she was REALLY enjoying it.
- Ah, there's was something else that's slipping my mind...
Like the leg warmers? :) Argh, video won't upload.
