...when I'm old and fall asleep and snore wherever we go? This is what I asked E on our way back from the play last night. I was already tired. And it was a bad play ("A Spanish Play" by Yasmina Reza). My bad for buying tix before reviews came out. Unfortunately, I was probably a little obvious in my bright pink jumpsuit in the second row. E said I snored...but not too loudly. He did try to poke me.
It was quite the subway ride down to the play...at one station there was a delay because there was a person laying prostrate and not moving on the platform. The announcer kept saying, "Help is on the way."
Then at 96th Street Paige Davis and her hubby got on. She's the host (still? I don't have cable anymore) of Trading Spaces, a decorating show on TLC. I even recognized her husband because they were on A Wedding Story, also on TLC. I remember they met on Broadway (both musical theater actors who had roles in Beauty & The Beast I think) and his last name is Page (first name Patrick). Paige Page. Yep. And then we thought we saw a CEO of a Fortune 500 company and a Nobel Prize winner in math. :) We have pretty good imaginations. Ooh, I just looked Ms Davis up and apparently there's some scandal around her recent firing from TS. But I don't gossip so I won't post what it is. :P
Speaking of fireworks, the back page of this morning's Dining section of the NY Times carried a full-page letter from Jeffrey Chodorow, the restauranteur, defending his recently reviewed restaurant, Kobe Club which was totally panned by the NYT critic, Frank Bruni. Chodorow basically said that others have said it's a good restaurant, but then also goes on to say he creates restaurants for people, not critics, that the review was a personal attack, and that his restaurants have gotten short shrift every since the falling out with Rocco DiSpirito (remember that reality tv show about getting a new restaurant off the ground?).
Borrowed several videos from the library to watch over President's Day Weekend. My recommendation of the bunch: Shopgirl starring Claire Danes (and also written by) Steven Martin. I liked what it was trying to communicate on several levels. Not a lot of action though if that's what you're in the mood for. I also saw Rent, eh, okay, still cried at the sad parts though. The Smartest Guys in the Room about Enron was fairly interesting. Lastly, I tried to watch Jarhead, but the DVD (risk of getting movies from the library) was too scratched up to watch.I need to get in the writing zone. I have the opportunity to write a reference letter for a friend who is adopting. I realized I promised to review a journal article over a month ago and it was supposed to be in by February 7th. I'm supposedly revising my own article and resubmitting it soon. Oh, and that chapter that I was writing with my professor way back when, the latest deadline is March 1st. Every time I bring it up she says, "Not this week." Hmm.
My birthday is coming up. I don't know what I'm doing for my birthday. I think I said something to E a while back about wanting to participate in some kind of group activity this year, but I have no idea what, if anything, is unfolding in two weeks. Do you like to know or do you like to be surprised? I generally like to know. E did a great job of surprising me for my 30th though. He reads my blog so we'll if this post gets any response.
I had a craving for Indonesian Mi Goreng ramen the other day. I found it on-line but in order to make it worth the shipping cost I had to buy a lot. I bought 20 packages. Yummy. Bad for you. Yummy. You're supposed to eat them without broth. I'm not a huge broth person. My current craving is for some good old Indian standbys...you know, palak paneer, chicken tikka massala, naan...the boring but good stuff. It was in the 40s today. So nice. I walked home...most of the way. I couldn't resist the bus at 113th street (I did walk from 91st though).
