I've been having a craving for Boston Market. Then I saw a coupon in the newspaper circular. Then I discovered there was a location just a couple blocks from where we were going shopping tonight. E thought it was pretty funny that we were going out of our way for BM. I protested that it was really close by and not out of our way at all! There are only two BM in Manhattan. The actual meal only partially fulfilled the craving. I love those processed mashed potatoes and gravy (think KFC). The stuffing was a little bland though. Maybe this whole frigid winter thing is putting me in that comfort/starch food phase.
My sister and I took advantage of Restaurant Week and had lunch at db Bistro Moderne in midtown (a nice compromise distance-wise since we both had class to get back to). When I first walked in the door my first thought was, "Man, look at all those Asian American women in my age cohort...I guess we all think alike?" My sister said she didn't notice and as the back room filled up a more diverse clientele came in. The food was pretty good - highlights included the croutons, the hummus-like substance, and the chocolate torte at the end.
Continuing on the food vein...we stopped by Whole Foods right before heading back tonight. I was feeling the need to get some easily prepared foods (read: frozen) for those nights we don't feel like cooking. I didn't really find anything that fit the bill for the price I wanted. I did pick up a couple of Whole Foods brand burritos for $1.39 each. I think I just need to go to the Asian store and get some dumplings and Trader Joe's for their tamales.
I had a KitKat this past weekend for the first time in a long time--the chocolate coating was too....sweet. The Pepperidge Farm mini-chocolate chip cookies hit the spot though (pre-Community Theater Fiddler on the Roof performance featuring several people from our church).
I'm starting to understand every mother's nightmare of having to figure out what's for dinner every day for the rest of her life. Right before E left for his trip I just couldn't motivate myself to cook at all...we had tons of take-out...we had Peruvian chicken, we had Mexican burritos, we even had Domino's pizza. I'm thinking chili next.
