discretion

I was browsing job listings and came across this important notice...very "24." Btw, pics up on my 8/7 post.

"Important Notice: You are interested in a position as an overt employee---which means you can acknowledge your affiliation with the Central Intelligence Agency. But should you? There may be friends, family, individuals or organizations who would be very interested to learn that you are an applicant for or an employee of the CIA. Their interest, however, may not be benign or in your best interest. You cannot control who they would tell. We therefore ask you to exercise discretion and good judgment in disclosing your interest in a position with the Agency."

I'm the webmaster for my college alumni page and have the job of approving alumni updates for my year (but have acess to reading everything). Being a conservative, evangelical institution, you don't typically get updates about "taboo" topics such as divorce. But here's one that just came in. It does make me sad that there may be people who would not go to a reunion because of how others might react.

"Jeff C. recently received his Master's degree in European Politics from the University of London. He is currently teaching Psychology and Science at a High School in London, where he lives with his partner of seven years, Damien."

I've been cleaning out my office at school and still working on writing two articles and one chapter with my various professors. It will be weird to have no place to go. I could turn into one of those coffee shop people but my laptop battery doesn't work and I'm too cheap to buy coffee every day.

After an extended layover, Joy departed for Sweden (her arrival from OC unfortunately coinciding with the British terror threat). May is arriving a week from today. I'm looking forward to us being in the same city. It's only too bad she's going to be living so far away - only 5.8 miles but 53 minutes on public transit. Btw, hopstop.com is a great website for figuring out how to get places using public transportation.

With Joy, E and old roomie, Angela at Joy's early bday celebration:

Had Ethiopian food last night for the first time in years...maybe I was too quick to dismiss it (remember not really being enamored with the injera, sourdough flatbread).

Just finished a good, quick read (old, popular book I'd never gotten around to--The Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier. I really can't imagine Scarlett Johannsen in the title role.

Currently reading War Reporting for Cowards by Chris Ayres--saw it in Hudson News at the airport and picked it up from the library:

And looking forward to the next season of the Amazing Race - finally, two all-Asian American pairings, one of two brothers, another of a South Asian couple. There's also the the first woman who completed the Hawaiiwan Ironman Triathlon with a prosthetic leg.
