Sneak peek...

We're here! Ezer drove out with his brother last Saturday and arrived Sunday night. The movers came Tuesday and the girls and I arrived via airplane on Wednesday. We lived in limbo for a week after our place was packed last Wednesday. Fortunately, we had two very good friends who let us stay in their apartments during that time.

This was my first time seeing our place as Ezer came out by himself (though I did see an iphone video). The space is great. The dining/living room is probably twice the same as the one we had in NYC. Having a third bedroom is always great. The third bedroom is small, so it basically functions as the girls' sleeping room. We have the master bedroom which has a small sun room off of it, which is Ezer's "study." Then there is a room off the living room with French doors which is the girls' playroom/my sewing room.

It's amazing how hard it can be to figure out where to put things. We don't have as many closets here though we do have a "mud room" and a pantry. Right now I'm lobbying for an Ikea dresser...in all of our Morningside Gardens apartments we've used the linen closet as a dresser.

Looking east, our dining area - off camera to the right are windows and a gas fireplace. Note Noemi in the pack and play - the gate for the stairs doesn't quite fit so she's been relegated to the PNP more than she would like while we try to get unpacking done.

The living room which faces the front of the house and faces west. We are in a "two-flat," the second story of a two-story home with a separate entrance. Here the term flat is very common - there are two-flats, four-flats, six-flats, etc. These are smaller buildings that locals wouldn't consider apartment buildings.

We like that it's much quieter here though there is a YMCA across the street and we could definitely here kids and the summer camp school bus this morning.

We like our back patio area with tables/chairs/grill. We had a nice dinner outside tonight.

We like having basement storage and a washer-dryer though our days are Friday, Sunday, Monday - with Thursday being open. So far only Ezer has met the neighbors downstairs - three single guys who seem nice according to him.

We like having a garage - though E is worried about my parking once the landlord rents the space next to us.

The past two days the girls and I have explored a bit. I'm really glad it's quite a walkable place. We got our library card. We've been to three playgrounds. We had a cupcake. I'm excited about all the yard sales tomorrow. We're hoping to go into Chicago tomorrow as well. And we're excited to check out this church on Sunday: http://www.judsonoakpark.com/.

I miss being to call up friends to hang out with us. Simone misses New York. Today she asked when we were going back. When told we were going to be here for a long, long time, she asked if we could visit Ellie (her classmate whose family is renting our NYC apartment). But she's also enjoying going to places and doing things for the first time.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers!!

Looking at the familiar furniture in the pics makes me think you should still be in NYC, right where we left you! Thanks for sharing a glimpse of your new life. We miss being able to call you up too!
