Other random thoughts:
- I was cleaning up my desk and came across the parent info roster for S's daycare. There are 46 women who are mothers. Three are single moms. Only seven women go by their husband's surname. Seven women use a hyphenated or a double last name. And twenty-nine women use their maiden name. I was surprised the number was so a! Ten of the kids go by both or a hyphenated last name. Two more have hyphenated names that are the same as their father's hyphenated last names.
- Only one kid showed up (though more had confirmed) for the Science Club outing. At least it was a good speaker. The facilities guy said the speaker may not be able to do many of his demos in the chapel because they involve dry ice, etc. Great...and the speaker guy hasn't been replying to my e-mails and calls.
- At this week's search committee meeting I suggested blacking out the names on all of the resumes we get. The committee didn't go for it. The chair of the committee suggested that as members of the search committee for Director of Diversity we were aware of our possible biases. We'll see.
