eating and playing

That pretty much describes Simone's life...though she's a pretty fickle eater. These days she's into carbs and not into fruit so much.

Simone's got Chinese blood in her indeed...

Trying to eat with chopsticks:

Our little soup lover (in a tea cup), she drank a lot!

Simone continues is doing more pretend play especially with her stuffed animals/dolls. Here she lines them all up and gives them all books. Good mommy/librarian/teacher, Simone!

Reading...with some loud "African Playground" music in the background.

This week:

- Had a fun double date with a couple from our small group, and "crashed" another family's apartment for fabulous cappuccinos afterward. This couple are coffee fanatics - they even roast their own beans. Thanks to A for babysitting!

- Had our monthly Mercy Team meeting - talked about our upcoming one-day retreat among other things. I'm on the planning committee. It's going to be on Memorial Day. My mom will be here then - we are looking forward to that and very thankful she's going to watch Simone that day!

- Childcare has been on my mind - just how critical it is (obviously) and how thankful I am for all the people who are a part of Simone's life via watching her and otherwise. I try not to ask too often but yesterday I think I should have. I met with a woman from our church who is facilitating the retreat. Simone was okay part of the time - the other part of the time she was spilling liquid and ice everywhere and bolting for the door of the store every chance she got.

- E and I really enjoyed out evening out at the Tribeca Film Festival (of course E thinks that people wouldn't enjoy the movies as much if they weren't part of the TFF). We watched five short documentaries - restoration of Buddhist temples in the kingdom of Mustang, the last generation of female divers on this island in Korea (they go without any equipment and this has been passed a female tradition for 2,000 years), a Muslim American professional wrestler who takes on the "character" of a bad guy Muslim to garner attention and notice; revisiting a destroyed New Orleans post-Katrina home with photos and memories of better days; a man who has artistic flora tattooed over his whole body and wants to donate his skin to a museum after he dies.

- We celebrated two birthdays on Saturday - one at Shake Shack which we arrived to late and got to eat yummy food without waiting in that long, long line. Simone enjoyed the dog run and playground at Madison Park. Then that evening it was a fun girls night out/surprise birthday gathering at a Japanese tea house.

- I was asked if I'd be interested in teaching a section of 9th grade biology next school year....crazy, eh? And I said yes (tentatively). I have to be approved by the headmaster. I keep thinking, "I don't know if I'd want my kid's bio teacher to have not had bio since AP Bio in high school..." But then again, my 9th grade bio teacher was a former college athlete who seemed like he went into high school teaching for the summers. :P They are going to hire a full-time person but have this extra section that needs to be taught.

- It's been grey, raining, sunny at times, but not too cold. I guess it is spring after all.
