bugs and beautiful days

This past week:

- Today a nice spring day. I went with May to see our friend Angela perform with her class in a variety dance show. She was fierce! When she mentioned the performance space was right above a Red Mango frozen yogurt joint I excitedly brought my coupon for a free yogurt. I'd never tried it before - it was okay, not as tart as some of its competitors. I think I'm just not a huge frozen yogurt fan. I liked their artwork.

- Yesterday was hot! I went with my mentee to Street Games 2009 - a free event sponsored by the NYC Parks. Her favorite were those big inflated balls with handles that you bounce on. We also tried pogo sticks, hopscotch, played red light green light, etc. There were also booths by organizations including Disney - she got a free High School Musical 2 DVD and I picked up a Pooh DVD for Simone.

After dinner E, S, and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. S walking around campus in her PJs was a funny sight.

- Friday I stayed home from Moms group because I had to wait for the exterminator. The window I was given was 10:30-11:30am. Of course he didn't come until 12:30pm so I could have gone to Mom's group if I had known! :P That often seems to happen when you're waiting for services (cable guy, plumber, etc.). We had an appointment because we suspected we might have bedbugs. Booooo! I know how awful they can be from a friend who literally moved out of her apartment for three months. I'd gotten a few bites and then when I changed the bedsheets there were a few splotches. But when the guy came he couldn't find anything. So on his recommendation I got those mattress encasements (and did the whole hot dryer thing). The last two nights seems to have passed without any new bites. Dear God, please don't let us have bedbugs! Or let the covers take care of them!

Our small group had a really nice going-away dinner for a member who is moving to San Francisco. It was just a really fun night. I like the people in our group.

- School: Tomorrow is supposedly senior skip day. Still no contract. My chair now wants to meet with me bi-weekly about the science enrichment program. I can't help but wonder if this increased supervision is because there's something more she'd like me to be doing????

- Research: Met with one prof...always wants me to redo the analysis with new things he thinks of...a bit frustrating. The other one, with whom I received a revise and resubmit has not been responsive and now wants me to ask for an extension.

- May was nice enough to babysit for date night (and says that Simone is getting easier to babysit!) - E and I went to a free concert by the Julliard String Quartet at the newly renovated Alice Tully Hall...one of those - don't you love New York moments.

- E is becoming a West Wing junkie. The latest show I've gotten into are old seasons of Top Chef. I also watched Run Fat Boy Run this week - not bad.

Have you watched 24 this season? I'm hooked...again! Love hearing you talk to Simone in the videos. You are such a good mom!
