something simone

Simone at 18.5 months...
- 24 lbs, 30 inches
- trying more words, "bubbles" was a fun recent addition
- starting to have more imaginative play - today she was making a ballerina figurine hop around and "talk"; Saturday she put a bib on Nigel the bear, hoisted him into her highchair (no easy task), and paced back and forth muttering to him
- had her first dentist appointment today; it's time for fluoride toothpaste! And yes, she will need braces eventually.
- likes pointing at things in books and have you name them. Her current favorite book from the library is this hodgepodge Everything Book. Books Mom and Dad like include Wave by Suzy Lee and Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.
- likes a partner in crime. She pulls me to come dance with her when the music/video is on; On Sunday she saw two slightly older girls chasing each other and wanted to join in but wouldn't go herself - she tried to pull Daddy's hand but he was busy talking.
- like to pray. Sometimes at night she'll have me pray three or four times (yes, this may just be a delay technique). She likes to say her version of "Amen" at the end.

One of Simone's favorite people, her babysitter, Leslie. S gets soooo excited every morning when Leslie arrives.

Simone's becoming a good sharer. We watched Tali the other day and they were using the musical instruments. At first S tried to take an instrument from Tali but after she cried she couldn't stop trying to give instruments (and snacks!) to her. Note that Tali is eight months younger than Simone and is almost bigger than her (they're more like even - the photo makes S look smaller).

A recent study looking at how big of a step Simone would go down by herself confirmed that our girl is no risk taker...but she likes to be scared. At home Ezer lunges at her on the bed only to avert at the last second and she loves it, anticipating the next scare. Here's the playground version on the swing:

Simone continues to really enjoy music. Her favorite time at Music Together is the instrument time. She grabs multiple instruments and during the course of the song, switches every sixty seconds, grabbing other kids instruments as they catch her fancy. I ordered a few instruments on-line so she can play at home, too.

Simone's nap schedule has been in flux. She doesn't sleep all that long in the morning, but resists taking an afternoon nap even though she's tired. Some nights she asks to go to bed at 7pm...this particular day she didn't even make it that far.
