yilo

I'm cleaning up my room today...in my Bible there is the program from a memorial service I went to two years ago. I noticed that the date Yilo passed away is two years ago today so I just wanted to remember him.

I knew Yilo through Emmanuel. Actually, I first heard about him through a mutual friend who said he was learning how to swing dance and suggested him as a potential beau. He came to our church retreat and while he was nice I avoided him. He did ask me out. I hesitantly said yes. And then found out that he asked another girl from EPC out for the same week! So I changed my mind. Not an auspicious start, but I grew to appreciate his heart for the less fortunate, his happy taste in clothing, and his enthusiasm. What I didn't know but somehow wasn't surprised by was that he lived with bipolar disorder. He stopped going to EPC a year or so before he died. At the service, on a positive note, I was glad to see that he did find a girlfriend. But there was much sadness at a life cut so short; he was 31.

A verse that meant a lot to him and is very fitting:
"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." Psalm 73:26
