Our current name choice for Baby Kang is Simone. Things can always change, but that's where we're at. We like it because of its sound, its a bit out of the ordinary, it honors my father-in-law (Simon), and has a good meaning (hearer of God). Our reasons are probably fairly typical ones. But it's funny how even when you're aware that name trends evolve in communities how individuals can think they're going against the flow when really, they're just part of a new wave. Just in the past couple of months I have heard from one friend that they're thinking about using Simone for a middle name, another acquaintance said it was on their list, and one of the name board commenters said that it was becoming more commonly heard in the U.K.
I recently did a baby name poll on my birth club site on Baby Center and asked for input from the Baby Name Wizard blog commenters. So far, out of the names we've thought of, Olivia is the winning middle name. Let me know if you have any suggestions that sound good both with Simone and our last name!
Last night: ice cubes in hand plus E squeezing my upper arm were supposed to simulate contractions while we practiced our breathing/ distraction techniques. We were supposed to bring with us an item of focus. Leaving this to the last minute I grabbed a framed photo of us from the living room, but I think I'm going to print out a lovely photo of Laguna Beach. :) Sorry, E. :P
Monday night: Had a breastfeeding class and afterwards attempted to go to a free concert featuring Lauryn Hill in the deep reaches of Brooklyn. Everyone else had the same idea (this was pretty late but I knew she wouldn't have gone on, yet). The park was barricaded with plice a block away because of being "beyond capacity." Since I didn't have an in (like a friend already there) I decided it was no use waiting around since we couldn't hear anything from the barricade. Oh well, no harm in trying to be adventurous/spontaneous. I would still like to hear Lauryn Hill live one day.
I've been trying to write more in my journal, which never seems to get closer to the end (started in 2005). I've decided to get a new one post-baby for all those new mom thoughts and feelings. One friend commented that he never knew his parents thoughts from when they were younger but that possibly our children will one day read our old blogs...haha, unless I don't "invite" them. I read an article about that...how our internet past my haunt us in the future i.e. what you wrote on facebook as a teenager being scrutinized by a future employer. That made me think about all my journals. What will I do with them...lock them up? Burn them before I die? Pass them on? I think they're rather boring but I'm sure you could my some wacky analysis out of them.

I've had the same thoughts about my paper journals...what to do with them? I used to be so good about writing but I haven't in ages. Maybe that's the downside of my time spent blogging.
Will baby Kang also have a Chinese name? Or Thai? :)
