a day redeemed

The day started off okay. E was off to camp so there was a mad rush of searching for a couple of clothing items he wanted to bring. Church was worshipful--our senior pastor was back for his first week following his sabbatical. I got to talk to several people afterwards and received a nice present of detergent for all those baby clothes washing needs.

And then it started to go downhill:
- Super hungry, felt like having a steak burrito from Noche Mexicana
- Decided to combine this trip with a trip to the store to exchange a baby present
- Forgot my receipt/number for restaurant to order take-out, had to go back up
- Bus came right away--hooray!
- Engrossed in an article about Floyd Landis, overshot my stop by 5 blocks
- Burrito cost more than I thought (old menu)
- No bus in sight
- No problem with exchange
- Tired, hungry, eager to get home
- Got home, looking forward to watching the gymnastics championship I recorded last night while eating my late lunch
- DVD Recorder menu isn't even showing up on the tv--keeps saying check cable signal...try to make sure everything is plugged in multiple times
- Still not working
- Finally get it to work after turning everything off, on, etc.
- Program isn't on disc :( It was working when I programmed it last night I thought.
- Take burrito out of bag, salsa goes flying all over the floor
- Watch half of a fairly depressing French movie called Fat Girl
- At least the burrito was pretty good.
- Decide to take a nap

Tonight was better--I went for our second monthly turn serving dinner to the homeless at All Angels. I got to get to know some of the women from EPC better who were also volunteering. I got to have a good conversation with some of the people at my table. I got a ride home.

Interesting sidenote: There was a 45-minute free period in-between preparations. Some people went to sit in on the service. I went to coffee with one of the gals. Turned out a big part of the service was a testimony about community (the theme of this morning's sermon, too!) from one of the members...as another gal retold the testimony something rang a bell..the testimony sharer was the sister-in-law of a guy I used to date! The one whose mom got really sick and died in the months following our break-up. I know it was a really hard year for him/them. I have to also admit I was relieved that I hadn't prolonged the relationship when I knew it wasn't going to work--how bad would it be to kick a guy when he's down!
