Two-Second Resolutions

It struck me this morning how bad I am at keeping resolutions. These aren't even big start-of-the-year type resolutions. Today I read in the paper that a woman was killed crossing the street while walking her dog on the Upper East Side (wealthy, philanthropist type). Earlier this week there was a 25-year-old graduate student pedestrian also killed on the Lower East Side (intoxicated driver). New York is a jaywalking city and I've grown accustomed to taking my chances but after reading the article I resolved to be more careful. Then two minutes later I'm rushing off to the grocery store and what do I do...make a mad dash across the street to try to make the light while the flashing red hand is glaring at me.

Then at the grocery store I know I need to be in and out like lightning (have to make it to school for a meeting). So I resolve not to buy anything that's not on my list. A few seconds later there I am picking up a bunch of grapes because my sweetie likes them and buying 2 for $4 avocados (I know, it's not even that cheap) because I like them.

Another thought while speeding through the grocery store: I bet having kids will make me more patient? I saw a dad and son shopping together - certainly not a model of efficiency.

Speaking of kids....my sister-in-law is in labor right now. We hope to visit the new addition tonight (she's been in the hospital since 5pm yesterday!).
