It was nice to see Ezer's co-workers. I hear about them through Ezer but don't see them very often. To me it's always important to try to know those important to the ones I love.
Tableware note: Last night we used almost every single piece of tableware we own. With our new table we can have service for 8. Now I can see why people register for 10/12 settings. We like our C&B plates but they certainly aren't as sturdy as Corelle.
Yes, I'm still getting into house stuff. The other came I came across these Blik Organic Wall Graphics from Target. I think this would be cool to do with our orange accent wall in our living room. They're movable/removable. I showed it to Ezer and he said it was "wild". :)

I went to New Haven a week ago to visit a psych prof, whose work I admire, to talk about possibly working together in the future. She asked good questions about my experience in grad school and what I wanted for the future. I think I cried for 80% of the time. I followed her advice to just make a decision one way or another about whether I want to pursue academic research because if I said yes it would take a big commitment possibly without that much support. My decision is no. She said to take a week to think about it. But I didn't need a week. And what a burden I felt lifted. I had felt like I needed to see this academic research path out because that's what I had been trained to do and "how embarassing" that I didn't have any publications to show for my time in graduate school. Also, I didn't like the idea of closing off options (not impossible to return to academia after leaving but not easy either).
My afternoon at Yale (took the commuter train up - about 2 hours with bus to train station, etc.) I also saw my cousin Joanna who is an '05 graduate and is currently an intern with Campus Crusade at Yale for the school year. She was giving me the brief tour and showed me all the residential colleges. Yale, Harvard, and Rice are the only U.S. schools I can think of that group their students into these residential colleges that you stay affiliated with for your four years and beyond. They have nothing to do with your course of study but usually develop some kind of reputation. Three years ago when I was thinking about dropping out of my program I had an informational interview with a woman at Harvard who was leaving such a position. I didn't apply because they wanted candidates with PhDs. This time around my cousin said, "You'd be great!" I looked up Yale's job opportunities and ta da, there just happened to be an open posting (deadline to apply: January 31). I'm working on updating my resume today!
I told Ezer about the job. The position requires you to live in the Dean's apartment within the residential college (they each have their own building/mini-campus). New Haven is a long but not inconceivable commute from New York (people do it). It's been interesting to think together about this possibility - a great opportunity for me, something I'm actually excited about, a lot of changes for our lives and our relationship, sacrifices possibly required, wondering how starting a family could fit in, how we haven't really considered making changes for my work since I might want to stay home or work part-time post kids, wondering how open and flexible each of us really is, praying about God's will for our future and to work in our hearts a we love each other and Him through this. As I shared with Ezer, even if nothing comes out of this job-wise, it's a good exercise for us to go through...
