Here are a couple pics from our kitchen window:

I was a little worried because for Ezer's birthday the next day I had rented a car for the day. But fortunately by then the roads were mostly okay.
At the end of Saturday, Ezer with "our" Mini Cooper:

We had a good day yesterday celebrating Ezer turning 3-8. For his birthday present I commissioned our friend Soohee to copy one of Ezer's favorite paintings, Mount Calvary by an African American artist, William H. Johnson. It is so gorgeous we can't wait to put it up on the wall (needs to completely dry first).

He'd been craving them for a while so for lunch I made mango shrimp summer rolls:

We also went on a road trip to visit his nephew Aaron at his residential school and had dinner at a small French bistro in Red Hook, an industrial part of Brooklyn. They key of the day was going to places only accessible by car. :)
My original plan had been to: get flowers/cake, car (using Zipcar for the first time), painting, and fix lunch all by the time Ezer returned from his long run (marathon training). Saturday rolled around and Ezer was debating whether to do his long run that day or not (COLD). I was starting to get stressed by all these things I had to do. So I scrapped my huge unveiling idea and asked Ezer to come with me to "run a few errands" (he was still surprised at each stop). What struck me and caused me to be so ambivalent about asking Ezer to come with me is the thought that I have become so dependent on him. It's kind of scary. When I was single, I could and would do such a load by myself. Since I've been married I've gotten used to sharing the load. Part of me wants to show myself I can still do it all myself. But another part says, "Silly, Jan - this is marriage. Enjoy the partnership. If and when you have to go it alone you will adapt and you will also have God and friends to help you."
