Columbia is fortunate to be located in New York and to have a good relationship with the U.N. It allows for things like the World Leaders Forum they have going on this week and next. This morning I went to hear the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, speak on development (this year's theme) and partnership. He had some good points about how things like debt cancellation, addressing corruption, and focusing on improving production capacity can really help his country and how developing nations have/can help. They had a Q&A time and as usual, I thought of my question too late. So instead I will share it here:
"I'm a psychologist who does research on couples and social support (or how they give help to one another...hadn't figured out the wording). It's been found that it is healthiest for couples when both members feel like they are both giving and receiving support. Do you think this principle can be applied to partnerships of development? If yes, what are some ways you feel your country could help a country like the U.S.?"
Amusing moment from yesterday:
T.J*.: Does anyone have a tampon?
Me: I think I have a pad.
T.J.: Oh, I'm not wearing any underwear.
Ha, this girl travels so light I should get her a pack of those o.b. tampons that have no applicator!
