This morning I voted in the New York Democratic Primary. As they say, New York is pretty much a one-party town so the primary can sometimes be more important than Election Day. While, I consider myself a fairly aware citizen of the city, I have to admit I am not terribly informed and resort to a variety of ways to make my choices.
Mayor: I didn't vote for any of the four major candidates. I guess you could say this was a protest vote because none of them made me want to vote for them. Instead, I voted for a candidate that is a political writer for a local paper. His entry in the New York Voter's Guide (candidates submit info) had some good critiques on city issues I hadn't known about.
Manhattan Borough President: I voted for Bill Perkins because he was the only candidate to have on his resume taking initiative on fighting against rats in the city. Also, he was our council member (term limits) and came to Morningside Heights events (like when residents complained about noise from the subways).
Others: Some say endorsements don't count for much, but for most of the other races when I didn't know anything about the candidates, I went with the NY Times endorsements. I figure they know more than I do.
It's been oh, 11 days since Ezer left. It really has felt like I've returned to my single days. The contrast is sharp because it's been all then nothing versus the transition from single to dating or dating to marriage where things change more gradually. For example: Friday after an engagement party, I joined a small birthday celebration. I invited the group of gals to come over and hang out. They did...until 1am (late for this old gal). Ezer doesn't like cramming in several social activities into a short time span (something I used to do all the time). And if he had come the conversation would have been much different, they may not have come over, and I'm almost sure they wouldn't have stayed as late. If I had gone to both celebrations by myself I probably wouldn't have extended the invitation. I'm glad it happened as it did though - it was a lot of fun and I appreciate the chance to get to know all the women there better in a short period of time.
Another good night was watching the Agassi/Blake match with another friend (yay for cable and big-screen tvs). It turned out that her husband was away for business, too. Not that our husbands don't get along, but it's different when they're around. Random shout-out to God for providing an M4 bus. We tried calling a private cab, but the wait was long and were just about to hail one when it appeared on the horizon - only $2 and only 20 min. door to door. Actually, much thanks to God for all he's provided, especially this week w/o Ezer. I think that while I see God in the love Ezer shows me, I also appreciate God with new eyes when Ezer's not here. It's a good reminder that God ultimately is the one who takes care of me and that if I had remained single or were ever single again I'd be okay.
This weekend, I went peach picking on Saturday and cooked a three-course meal for friends on Sunday (peach being the common ingredient in all courses!). I hadn't done either in a long time.
I'm starting to get CDs made whenever I get pictures developed. I think it's a good way for me to go for now. Last night I was mesmerized by slideshows created on my Mac with my iTunes music playing in the background. I wonder why having music makes all the difference.
