I got this internet deal that let us get rentals, skip the line, bag check, and hot chocolate for two all for about the same price as two rentals. Simone was a trooper - especially considering they didn't have skates in her size (one size up), and it was her very first time. We tried all sorts of things - her holding the wall, me holding one hand, me holding her under her armpits and skating behind her, me holding her hands and skating in front of her (and I can barely skate backwards). She did great. Her preferred method was keeping her right blade straight and pushing with her left. She would fall and get right back up (must be easier from that height, though!).
She was very cute, saying she was doing better, how she fell because she was a little kid, and that it was fun. We skated around several times, took a break, skated a couple more rounds, and then she decided she was "all done" in a very firm voice. A hot chocolate and ride on the merry-go-round (first time on a horse rather than the bench in over a year!) rounded out a good mother-daughter bonding afternoon.
