Pacing

One thing pregnancy teaches you quickly is to pace yourself. I've been getting really tired this past month and I've just had to be realistic about how much I can do and making sure I allow myself enough "margin." Those who know me know this isn't my forte. My tendency is to try to fit in as much as possible i.e. seeing three different friends in LA on the same day. Or this week - after picking S from daycare, taking her to the dentist (didn't go so well), picking up cupcakes for moms group, and going to a new pizza place I've heard so much about. The cupcakes and pizza were thumbs up - Dessert Bar and Motorino. Yes, I'm afraid I'm passing on my bad eating habits to baby #2, too.

Tonight I'm going to dinner at a friend's place. Tomorrow we're hosting a good-bye party for a friend with 16-20 guests. Tuesday my college friends and their two boys are coming to stay with us for a few days. My attempts at smart pacing: Not doing anything today but prep for the party (and catching up on blogging), not scheduling anything after the party, not scheduling anything on Monday so I can get ready for our houseguests. Now this may seem like obvious choices to many, but for me they're growth! :) I did schedule lunch with someone the day my friends leave and a sewing/patchwork date for the day after, but hey, they're both AFTER, right?

Speaking of patchwork - it's moving along. I sewed quite a bit in Cali and finished sewing these nine blocks together this week:

I'm not sure if this is the arrangement I ended up going with. On the back I've decided to make a reversible quilt and not just use a plain piece of fabric. The back will be a "coin" quilt - columns of short strips. Let me just say that I can spend hours rearranging where the strips go (not wanting the same pattern or colors to be adjacent, etc.).

Some photos from recent outings. I have to admit, I have a bit of that "must do as much as possible this summer" feeling just like I had before S made her appearance. I know it will be much harder to get out with a newborn and then with two.

My friend, Lish, who is in Singapore for seven weeks - missing her and her daughter!

SATC2 and brunch at a new "slow food" eatery in the East Village with A and M:

Btw, yesterday M and I saw Matt Damon at the playground we took S to; apparently he's moved to the Upperwestside.

Yes, cupcakes again, this time at an Arts Cafe that had a Memorial Day celebration:
