Read an article that talked about how it was right and good that Emmitt Smith won Dancing with the Stars because he embodied what the show was about - taking a risk, learning something new and finding that you have a talent for it whereas Mario was a ringer from the beginning. I didn't even watch the show, but go Emmitt!
Emmitt (msnbc):"Emmitt Smith, on the other hand, was exactly the kind of celebrity who can make this ridiculous show weirdly appealing. He wasn’t a clown, like Jerry Springer. He wasn’t an earnest failure, like Sara Evans. He had the rare combination of natural ability and a capacity and willingness to learn how to do something outside his comfort zone....The most auspicious thing Emmitt Smith said in the first episode was that he was used to being coached, and it turned out to be true. Emmitt worked hard, and he didn’t complain (much), and sure enough, he kept getting better."
Hillary:
There's a good article in The Atlantic Monthly about her. You forget how big her crash was with the health care proposal and how her succeeding in the senate or even winning the election was no sure thing. She's definitely comes across as as someone who has become a very savvy politician but one point the article makes is that she played it very safe and taken few risks which may not bode well for a future presidency.
The closing paragraph: "Yet it is fair to wonder if Clinton learned the lesson of the health-care disaster too well, whether she has so embraced caution and compromise that she can no longer judge what merits taking political risks. It is hard to square the brashly confident leader of health-care reform—willing to act on her deepest beliefs, intent on changing the political climate and not merely exploiting it—with the senator who recently went along with the vote to make flag-burning a crime. Today Clinton offers no big ideas, no crusading causes—by her own tacit admission, no evidence of bravery in the service of a larger ideal. Instead, her Senate record is an assemblage of many, many small gains. Her real accomplishment in the Senate has been to rehabilitate the image and political career of Hillary Rodham Clinton. Impressive though that has been in its particulars, it makes for a rather thin claim on the presidency. Senator Clinton has plenty to talk about, but she doesn’t have much to say."New York Moment:
Sitting on the subway this morning surrounded by people on three sides each reading a newspaper but in a different language (English, Spanish, and Russian?).
School:
I can see why teacher's try not to miss school - it's a lot of work getting ready for a subtitute even when they're not teaching your curriclum. Last week I was gone, one guest speakers and a video, and next week two different guest speakers are coming.
It's been a busy wedding season, not due to number but due to location. I have yet to attend a wedding in Manhattan (have Queens and Staten Island under my belt though). Last weekend I was out in Cali for my dear friend's wedding. I always enjoy it when I get to hang out with the bride in the days up to her wedding. It's a special intimate time. I also enjoyed teaming up with other bridesmaids to get tasks done (e.g. printing programs and menus at Kinkos the day before wedding). One more back in Cali again December 23rd.

Also got to see Mom, Dad, and Grandma. Mom and I had a nice all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet at Las Brisas, the best restaurant view in Laguna Beach. Dad showed me his Indonesian version of Gideon's (the part that has topics and verses). Grandma remembered that I was her son's daughter and laughed when I bobbed my head from side to side.
This was my first time flying since the England incident. Overhead space is much emptier now that we have to pack everything in check-in. I went a little crazy for the wedding - it should have been easy since the instructions were to wear a long black dress. But I got this dress for my birthday, but then I wasn't sure if I should wear it, then I needed to get shoes for it and a special bra. So then I might as well go all out and got a 23-step make-up lesson from my sister who generously let me borrow her fancy stuff (products, hair and face, really do make a difference!).
Deja vu moment tonight (or maybe another name?): I went to The Hummus Place to (guess) and when I was waiting to the side of the counter after I'd placed my order there was a credit card on it, that looked just like mine. I even double checked my wallet. Then, the guy puts his phone on the counter. It also, is exactly the same make. Not only that, it has a chip on the hinge on the right side...yep, just like mine.
I've been trying to read Proverbs and in our small group we're going through the beginnig of Genesis. Been a little not there recently in this realm though, including Sunday sermons. Hmm.
