Sunday I organized a group to test out a classmate's scavenger hunt. She's teaching a pre-college class on Madness and Genius and created this tour through Greenwich Village to many of the homes and haunts for famous writers who used to live there. We split up into two groups to "compete" against one another. There were a few confusing clues and questions, and it was a little long (over an hour and a half) but we went to some interesting sites including the bar where Edward Albee saw graffiti on a mirror reading "Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf?" which was the inspiration for his play's name and the home where Washington Irving wrote The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
One question was to estimate how wide Edna St. Millay's old home was (very narrow - only 9.5 feet). You can see my friend Jon went to great lengths for accuracy:

Here's the group:

Last night a couple friends joined me to hear free jazz in Morningside park and we had a picnic dinner. Behind Soohee and I you can see some random fake giant water lilies....no idea what that's about.

Just finished reading Geraldine Brooks' Year of Wonder, a novel about a town who voluntarily confined themselves when the Plague struck them. Interesting....ending was a bit random though.
Finally (just past midnight) got all my grades turned in last Friday. Had a complaining e-mail today and am meeting with a student today at 2pm. Ahh, will it never end.
We've been having a problem with these little bugs...they don't fly...and they like water. They're slow at least so they're not that hard to kill, but how to get rid of the problem?
We're off to Geneva, New York this weekend (upstate, Finger Lakes region of New York which I've never visited) for Ezer's half-Ironman Triathlon. Pray for him!
