Just what I've been up to...

Last night Ezer and I went to a reading at Barnes & Noble. A woman from church recently wrote a book called Breaking the Bamboo Ceiling about Asian Americans in the workplace. Just hearing about the different corporate scenarios she excerpted made me glad not to be working in the business world and reaffirmed it's not for me.

We ran into a guy who grew up at the same home church with me in OC. I was good friends with his little sister in high school and college. My grandmother used to tell me I should marry him. :)

Afterwards we went on a mission to find an inexpensive place for dinner with A/C. After a couple false starts we ended up at Hummus Place in St. Mark's. The best hummus in town.

My good friend Tanya was in town the weekend before last. It was sooo hot. It was great just to have extended time to hang out. We usually see each other for an evening when I'm back in SoCal. Two things we really enjoyed were the Met museum - good Chanel and Matisse exhibits and lunch at Davidburke & Donatella. The Chanel style seems such a regular part of fashion that Tanya and I thought it would be helpful to have more context to see why it was such a revolutionary influence. The Matisse exhibit was neat in that it focused on the role of fabric in Matisse's creativity and painting.

At Davidburke & Donatella they have a "restaurant week" type lunch deal (3 courses for $20.12) year round. Tanya was kind enough to swap with me when my adventurous attempt to eat liver failed. I also enjoyed the presentation touches - along with my chocolate tart they served a chocolate creme brulee in an eggshell!

The summer research assistants are leaving soon. I had a nice talk with one of them yesterday about church and Christian writers. She's been reading C.S. Lewis. I tried recommending hearing Tim Keller and reading Henri Nouwen. It was neat to see how God opened that door.
